Union claims appointment of finance ministry official would damage independence
Paraguay’s president should not appoint a finance ministry official to the central bank board, a former governor and the institution’s staff union said.
Mario Abdo Benítez nominated Carmen Marín to the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) board on September 6. Newspaper La Nación said Marín declined to commit to formally resigning from the finance ministry at a parliamentary hearing on September 14.
