Lisa Cook becomes first Black woman to serve as Fed governor
Confirmation vote in US senate was split down party lines
The US Senate voted 51 to 50 to confirm Lisa Cook to the Federal Reserve board on May 10, with vice-president Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote. Cook is the first Black woman ever to serve on the Fed’s board of governors.
The vote was split directly along party lines. Every Democrat and the two independents in the Senate voted for Cook, and every Republican voted against her confirmation.
