Paraguay legislators clash with central bank over secrecy rules
Legislators considering changes to central bank law
Paraguayan legislators are considering amending the central bank law to change provisions on bank secrecy, after clashing with the institution’s board of directors. Several legislative committees met on April 20 to consider the matter.
The amendments would oblige the central bank to provide information in response to legislative requests without redacting material involving third parties. The central bank has said that current law requires such information remain secret.
