Former central bank governor to take post vacated by Alejandro Werner

Brazil’s Ilan Goldfajn has been appointed as the new director of the International Monetary Fund’s western hemisphere department.

The former Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) governor – who holds both Brazilian and Israeli citizenship – will take up the post on January 3. He succeeds Alejandro Werner, who retired at the end of August.
