Mvunga leaves following change in presidents, amid high inflation

Bank of Zambia governor Christopher Mvunga resigned on September 7, after less than a year in office. Mvunga’s departure closely follows that of the president who appointed him, Edgar Lungu, who lost presidential elections held on August 12.

The Zambian presidency confirmed in a statement that Mvunga had resigned, and that the new president, Hakainde Hichilema, had designated deputy governor Francis Chipimo to serve as acting governor. Chipimo is currently one of two deputy governors, charged
