Lithuanian parliament approves new governor
Gediminas Šimkus caps long career at Bank of Lithuania
The Lithuanian parliament approved the nomination of Gediminas Šimkus as the next governor of the Bank of Lithuania on April 1. Gitanas Nausėda, the president of Lithuania, submitted Šimkus’s name late in March.
As governor of a eurozone central bank, Šimkus also becomes a member of the governing council of the European Central Bank.
Šimkus will assume office once the term of Vitas Vasiliauskas, the previous governor, ends on April 7. Vasiliauskas has served two five-year terms as governor.
