Cash issuance in Botswana balloons 18% in 2019
Annual report shows banknote issuance growth for all denominations
The annual rate of growth in banknotes in circulation in Botswana increased sharply in 2019, rising from 3.7% in 2018 to 18%, according to the central bank’s latest annual report.
“The bank continued to manage the supply of banknotes and coins to ensure availability of high-quality currency in circulation,” the central bank says.
The biggest increase in issuance was for the 10 pula ($0.86) banknote, which grew 43.6% last year. The 200, 100 and 50 experienced growth of 21.1%, 4% and 15.7%
