Malawi’s new president dismisses governor
Former World Bank official will take over central bank as country faces uncertain outlook
Malawi’s newly elected president, Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, has dismissed the governor of the nation’s central bank and appointed a new one.
Chakwera became president of the small African nation after winning elections in late June. He has formed a government and replaced the heads of several official institutions.
Local media reported on July 2 that Dalitso Kabambe was fired as Reserve Bank of Malawi governor by Chakwera. The new president appointed Wilson Banda to the role on July 8.
