IMF confirms it has abandoned fifteenth quota reform

US thought to oppose proposals to increase emerging economies’ voting power

The International Monetary Fund has officially abandoned its fifteenth quota review after failing to build a majority of support among its executive directors, who represent member states.

The IMF published a report on February 13 confirming that the review had failed, as informed observers had concluded previously. IMF executive directors had concluded on January 16 that achieving the fifteenth review was “no longer within reach”, the report said, and recommended it be abandoned.
