Schnabel and Panetta appointed ECB executive board members

Final distribution of responsibilities in January will determine new members’ portfolios

Isabel Schnabel and Fabio Panetta have been appointed by the European Council to the executive board of the European Central Bank. They will start their eight-year terms on January 1.

The distribution of individual responsibilities they will receive in January will be an important factor in determining their influence at the ECB.

Schnabel is professor of financial economics at the University of Bonn in Germany. Since 2014, she has also served in the German Council of Economic experts. She
