The UK Treasury has been caught out once more by Brexit after it revealed coins minted to mark the country’s exit of the European Union would have to be recycled.

In August 2019, Sajid Javid, Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced plans for “millions” of coins to be engraved with the October 31 date – the day prime minister Boris Johnson had promised the UK would leave the EU.
