Lautenschläger resigns early from ECB governing council
News fuels speculation over German opposition to looser monetary policy
The European Central Bank’s most senior German official, Sabine Lautenschläger, is to resign more than two years early from her executive board post, the ECB said on September 25.
The ECB announcement said Lautenschläger will step down from her role on October 31, although she was due to serve until January 2022.
The ECB statement announcing her retirement did not give any reasons for her departure and Lautenschläger herself has not commented on the news. Several sources close to the matter
