The US government has officially designated Iran’s central bank as a supporter of terrorism following a recent attack on Saudi Arabian oil facilities.

US president Donald Trump announced the move when speaking to reporters on September 20. The US Treasury Department then issued an official order ordering sanctions against the Central Bank of Iran (CBI).

The order accused the central bank of supporting two organisations involved in terrorism: Hezbollah, a Shi’ite organisation based in Lebanon
