Seasoned civil servant Carlos Federico Paredes appointed by new political outsider president
The newly elected president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, has appointed a new central bank chief, former civil servant Carlos Federico Paredes.
Bukele’s choice for the central bank chief – announced as part of wider set of government appointments – comes less than two weeks after the president was sworn into office on June 1. During the election race, the 37-year-old political outsider promised to tackle the nation’s legacy of gang violence and corruption.
