Nigerian president nominates Emefiele for second term as governor
Governor has been most important figure in Nigerian economic policy for last five years
Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari has nominated central bank governor Godwin Emefiele for a second five-year term in office, a senior lawmaker announced on March 9.
Emefiele will need to be confirmed by Nigeria’s senate, which is due to hold hearings on his re-nomination early next week. If successful, he would be the first Nigerian central bank governor to be appointed to a second term since the country returned to civilian rule in 1999. Emefiele’s first five-year term ends this month.
