European Central Bank assesses success of diversity policies in addressing gender gap

Central banks should seek to understand what drives gender promotion gaps before implementing diversity policies, research from the European Central Bank concludes.

Similar to other major central banks, the ECB has a substantial gender imbalance, especially at managerial levels and among economists.

However, in 2010, the ECB made a “fundamental shift” regarding gender diversity, the central bank says, implementing policies which would remove barriers to women looking to progress up the career
