The US is suffering from an increasingly polarised labour market, in which highly skilled workers enjoy rapid wage rises and low-skilled workers see their pay stagnate, according to a new paper by MIT-based academic David Autor.

Autor’s paper, Work of the past, work of the future, looks at how the middle of the US labour market has been hollowed out, examining how this polarisation ties with the changing structure of work across geographic regions, and the resultant income inequality.
