Central Bank of Kenya intervenes amid coin confusion

The Central Bank of Kenya has had to clarify its position regarding the circulation of the country’s new coin series.

During the “sensitisation phase” immediately following the launch in December 2018, the central bank placed limits on the amount of new coins per person to ensure “the widest possible solution”.

“This was communicated to all banking institutions on December 14, 2018,” the central bank said in a statement on January 8.
