US academic likely to be next Bank of Israel governor
Amir Yaron likely to be appointed by Israeli cabinet but observer raises doubts about independence
A professor of banking and finance at a US university is likely to become the Bank of Israel’s next governor after his appointment was cleared by a vetting board.
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Natanyahu and finance minister Moshe Kahlon nominated Amir Yaron last month to replace Karnit Flug, whose term ends next week.
The nomination was then passed to a committee responsible for vetting senior officials.
A report in local media outlet Israel National News said part of the vetting process
