BoE’s Broadbent apologises for ‘menopausal’ remark
Deputy made the remark while trying to explain the word ‘climacteric’ to a newspaper
The Bank of England’s Ben Broadbent has apologised for describing the UK economy as entering a “menopausal phase”.
The deputy governor said in a statement that he made the remark during an interview with the Telegraph, while “explaining the meaning of the word “climacteric”, a term used by economic historians to describe a period of low productivity growth during the nineteenth century”.
