People: Fijian interim governor appointed permanently, Azerbaijan deputy leaves

Fiji: Ariff Ali has been appointed governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji following three months acting as the institution’s leader.

Ali took over the role on an interim basis following the departure of Barry Whiteside in June this year. He has now been appointed by the island’s government for a full five-year term.

Having interviewed several candidates, the Constitutional Offices Commission recommended Ali to the president, who appointed him earlier this month, a statement from the government
