Brazil's central bank ponders fintech lending regime

The central bank says digital lenders could expand credit to families and small companies

The Central Bank of Brazil is considering allowing fintech firms to lend money without taking deposits, launching a public consultation that is set to run until November 17.

Financial firms operating through digital platforms offer a new source of credit to families and small and medium-sized companies, the central bank says. After more than a decade of rising credit to the private sector, the economic crisis unleashed by falling commodity prices in 2014 has reduced it again.
