The president of Malawi has appointed Dalitso Kabambe as governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi, replacing outgoing Charles Chuka.

In a statement signed by Lloyd Muhara, chief secretary to the government, on April 21, president Peter Mutharika said the appointment was effective immediately.

The power to appoint and dismiss the governor lies with the president under the Reserve Bank of Malawi (Amendment) Act 2010. Chuka, who was appointed in April 2012, served his full five-year term.
