TK Whitaker, 1916–2017
Former Irish governor was key figure in his country’s economic modernisation
TK Whitaker, a former governor of the Central Bank of Ireland and noted economic policymaker, died at the age of 100 on January 9.
Whitaker served as central bank governor between 1969 and 1976, undertaking a large number of reforms. At that time, it was customary for former top civil servants at Ireland's finance ministry to serve as central bank governors.
