UK inflation climbs in first post-Brexit data

Inflation in the UK hit a fresh high of 0.6% in July, according to figures released today (August 16), as the data began to reflect the effects of the UK's vote to leave the European Union.

CPI inflation hit its highest level since November 2014, driven in particular by motor fuels, alcoholic beverages and accommodation services, alongside a smaller fall in food prices than a year ago. Partially offsetting this were falls in social housing rents and the prices of some toys and games.
