The United States economy is "throwing off mixed signals" according to Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta president Dennis Lockhart, who described himself as "ambivalent" about the prospect of another rate hike.

Advance estimates suggest the economy grew at an annual rate of 0.5% in the first quarter of the year, disappointing many observers. "That's weak growth," Lockhart said, in Florida, on May 3.
