The Bulgarian public prosecutor has charged a former deputy governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) with "abuse of office", relating to his oversight of the collapsed lender Corporate Commercial Bank (CCB).

Rumen Simeonov stands accused of failing to fulfil his duties as a deputy governor, where he was responsible for banking supervision.

The public prosecutor said in a statement that auditors had found that Simeonov knew of "numerous violations" in the activities of CCB that jeopardised
