BoE’s Cunliffe wants better allocation of capital in Europe
Capital Markets Union could see resources better allocated
Capital markets in Europe are "underdeveloped" and have the potential to provide much greater benefits, Jon Cunliffe, the Bank of England's deputy governor for financial stability, said today.
In remarks to a conference in the City of London, Cunliffe envisaged a ‘Capital Markets Union' that would encourage savers in Europe to put their cash to better use across a more diverse portfolio of assets, while sharing risk and reducing reliance on the "still healing" banking sector.
