Fed wraps up asset purchase programme
US central bank brings era-defining policy to an end in unceremonious manner
The Federal Reserve will wrap up its monthly asset purchase programme in November, the US central bank announced today.
The decision, which was widely expected, brings an end to one of the most controversial policies in the 100-year-old institution's history.
"The [Federal Open Market] Committee (FOMC) decided to conclude its asset purchase programme this month," the Fed said in a statement. No press conference was given.
