Bundesbank unveils new card clearing infrastructure

New XML-based infrastructure to be launched in Germany

The Deutsche Bundesbank and EBA Clearing today unveiled new card clearing infrastructure for German banks.

The system introduces XML-based clearing of payments within the ‘Girocard' system – Germany's payment network for debit cards and ATM transactions – and under the wider Single Euro Payments Area (Sepa) Card Clearing Framework.

In a joint launch at the Sibos conference in Boston, the Bundesbank and EBA Clearing said a key objective of using the new XML-based system was to ensure that users
