Sarb governor Gill Marcus to step down
Governor of Sarb will leave when her term expires in November
Gill Marcus, governor of the South African Reserve Bank (Sarb), said today she will leave the central bank when her five-year term expires in November.
Marcus unveiled the move, which surprised many commentators, at a press conference in Pretoria following Sarb's decision to leave interest rates unchanged at 5.75%.
The rand fell to almost 11.1 to the US dollar, its weakest level since Feburary.
