Winston Churchill to appear on Bank of England’s next new banknote

Winston Churchill, the prime minister who guided Britain through World War II, will feature on a new a series of UK banknotes, most likely the £5 note, the Bank of England (BoE) announced today.

Speaking at Chartwell, Churchill's family home for more than 40 years, BoE governor Mervyn King said it was "entirely appropriate to put Sir Winston on what is probably our most popular note", and suggested the note itself may become known as "a Winston".
