Latvia submits application for a seat at the euro table

The governor of the Bank of Latvia together with the Latvian prime minister and the minister of finance, today requested the European Commission (EC) and the European Central Bank (ECB) to prepare a ‘convergence report' on Latvia – marking the Baltic country's official application to adopt the euro as its currency.

In the joint letter to ECB president Mario Draghi and EC president José Manuel Barroso, Bank of Latvia governor Ilmārs Rimšēvics and his governmental colleagues requested the EC and
