Mersch gets green light from ECB to join executive board

The European Central Bank (ECB) today (July 19) announced that the governing council had "no objections" to the appointment of Yves Mersch, the governor of the Central Bank of Luxembourg, to the executive board of the ECB.

In a brief statement posted on the central bank's website the governing council said Mersch was "a person of recognised standing and professional experience in monetary or banking matters, as required… the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union".
