Bini Smaghi in line for top Italian central bank job
Italy's prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, is expected to name Lorenzo Bini Smaghi, an executive board member at the ECB, as the next governor of the Bank of Italy, ending months of wrangling between politicians over who should lead the Italian central bank.
Various media sources have reported that Berlusconi has agreed to choose Bini Smaghi as the successor to Mario Draghi, who has now moved to Frankfurt to head the ECB. An announcement from the prime minister's office is expected late on
