Surprise choice for Dutch central bank chief

Klaas Knot, deputy treasurer-general and director for the financial markets in the Dutch ministry of finance, has been announced as the next president of the Netherlands Bank.

The Dutch cabinet, on Friday, took the recommendation of the supervisory board and the governing board of the central bank and appointed Knot, 44, as the next president of the central bank.

Nout Wellink, the current president, is set to leave the central bank when his term expires at the beginning of July.
