Bank to increase £5 notes in circulation
The number of £5 ($7.89) notes in circulation in the United Kingdom will increase from around 250m to 400m by 2012, the Bank of England said Wednesday, adding that the number of automated teller machines (ATMs) issuing the notes would increase.
"We are trying to increase the quantity of five pound notes out there to meet demand, and also to increase the quality of the notes," Victoria Cleland, the head of the Bank's notes division, told CentralBanking.com. She said shops had a habit of holding
