Trichet opposes EU agreement on fiscal sanctions

Jean-Claude Trichet, the president of the European Central Bank (ECB), has refused to endorse a package of fiscal sanctions agreed by European Union finance ministers earlier this week after a measure was applied that enables eurozone member states to evade penalties if they are vetoed by a majority vote.
