Potential limit on terms could lead to Wellink’s departure
Jan Kees de Jager, the finance minister of the Netherlands, on Monday proposed a law that would see the tenure of Nout Wellink as president of the Netherlands Bank come to a mandatory end next year.
In a letter to Dutch parliament, De Jager proposed imposing a limit of two seven-year terms on leadership of the central bank. There is at present no limit on the number of terms the president of the central bank can serve. Wellink, who took the job in 1997, is nearing the end of his second term
