Pakistan’s governor quits; deputy named interim chief
Syed Salim Raza, the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, has stepped down.
Raza, who had been governor since January 2009, submitted his resignation on 6 May but it was only accepted late Wednesday. Syed Wasimuddin, the chief spokesperson for the central bank, told CentralBanking.com that he had quit for personal reasons. He had two years left to run on his term.
Yaseen Anwar, the deputy governor for banking supervision and corporate services, has been named acting governor.
