RBI’s Chakrabarty pushes for greater funding to India's SMEs

Kamalesh Chakrabarty, a deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, on Friday outlined several new policies on improving access to microfinancing in India's small and medium enterprises.

At the formal release of the India Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Report 2010, Chakrabarty said small and medium enterprises had grown 18 % on average over the last five years. "Around 98% of the production units are in the small and medium enterprise sector," he said.
