Bank of Japan warned on asset holdings

Having made significant stock purchases as part of its policy against non-performing loans outgoing governor of the Bank of Japan Masaru Hayami has said further falls in asset prices could leave the Bank dangerously exposed.

Masaru Hayami, outgoing Bank of Japan governor, has warned that the central bank is dangerously exposed to falls in the price of assets, its holdings of which more than doubled during his five-year tenure.

Mr Hayami said the bank's ultra-loose monetary
