Basel's Wellink: link macro and micro supervision

Cooperation between macro- and micro-prudential supervisors should be strengthened, said Nout Wellink of De Nederlandsche Bank.

Wellink said that micro and macro-prudential supervision strongly overlapped and that central banks and prudential regulators needed to cooperate more closely.

He also said that the macroprudential orientation of the Basel II framework needed to be enhanced and that potential procyclicality of the framework was reviewed.
