SNB faces renewed drive to hold bitcoin in its reserves

Campaign calls for constitutional amendment that would force central bank to keep cryptocurrency

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) is facing a renewed campaign to force it to hold bitcoin as part of its reserves.

A clause in Switzerland’s constitution requires the SNB to hold part of its reserves in gold. Supporters of a new initiative want the clause changed to “in gold and bitcoin”.

The “bitcoin initiative” was submitted to the Swiss Federal Chancellery on December 5 and published on December 31. Its supporters now have 18 months to collect at least 100,000 signatures from Swiss citizens who
