World Economic Forum warns of CBDC ‘alliances’

Report recommends interoperability via “token switching” and common messaging standards

The World Economic Forum (WEF) published principles for central bank digital currency (CBD) interoperability on June 29, warning of a possible split along geopolitical lines. 

Drawing on the WEF’s CBDC governance consortium meetings, the report highlights the need for alignment in governance, legal and regulatory, identity and authentication, payments, and technical design.
