Sarb to increase engagement on monetary policy

Governor says central bank officials should be ones to outline “sensible” view of monetary policy

The governor of the South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) has said central bank officials will increase their engagement with the general public on the topic of monetary policy.

Appearing before an audience at the University of Pretoria on July 3, Lesetja Kganyago outlined the importance of inflation targeting as a monetary policy instrument that maintains the independence of the central bank.

His words come on the back of a legal dispute between the central bank and the public protector, Busisiwe
