Morocco cuts rates to 2.25%

Central bank expects inflation to be near 2% over next two years

Central Bank of Morocco, Rabat

The Central Bank of Morocco on March 18 reduced its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to 2.25%.

This was the bank’s second consecutive 25bp cut and its third since it began its loosening cycle last June.

It said it expected inflation to rise but “revolve around” 2% over the next two years and that the cut would aid growth while ensuring price stability.

The central bank said its projection was subject to risks from geo-economic tensions globally. Headline inflation in Morocco rose to 2% in January
