RBA sees gender disparity in Australians’ inflation expectations

Survey claims men’s views are closer to central bank’s than women’s

A survey by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) claims the country’s men are better informed than its women about the central bank’s inflation expectations.

In January 2023, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) behaviour insights team surveyed around 3,000 adults about their expectations of how consumer prices might rise and their knowledge of the central bank’s inflation target.

In the report, released on January 25, researchers Madeleine McCowage and Peter Rickards said the results showed that
