ECB commits to tapering bond purchase programme

Unanimous decision says bond purchases will taper if data confirms medium-term outlook

The governing council of the European Central Bank voted unanimously to taper its asset purchase programme today (June 14), but also strengthened its communication on future policy rates.

The fact that the governing council’s decision had been unanimous gave it “a special strength”, president Mario Draghi emphasised in a press conference.
