RBA needs representative for the poor – religious group
Proposed new board member would help central bank understand effect monetary policy has on poor, says group
A report issued by an Australian religious group has proposed creating a new position on the board of the Reserve Bank of Australia, specifically chosen to serve the poorest in society.
Catholic Social Services Australia (CSSA) says there is a need to appoint a “pre-eminent Australian” with knowledge and experience of the consequences of monetary policy on “the poor and marginalised”.
The new board member would “reinforce the interconnectedness of economic and social policy”, the report says
